Week somthing LOL - gm_jdconstruct_v2

Hello all

The internet got reset so I can now post again. First off there are no changes to the map, not really maybe small ones but i would of had it on a server by now if it wasnt for the internet capping out.

now i got net back i can look at getting a server and have the map up on there so every one can test it out.

Week 2 - #8 - gm_jdconstruct

Hi all

sad news very..... very sad.... I can't get a server going till at least first of next month as my Usage capped out today and im running dial up speed.

It Capped out over the fact I was told to download from 8pm to 8am for unlimited downloads and I found out it was from 2am to 8am so not knowing this I downloaded Empire total war and Boom there was 3/4 of my internet usage. One massive game at 15GB :(

Any ways I'm cleaning my PC and getting a new 1TB HDD to make room on the PC HDD so I can get the internet going a bit faster and maybe I can still use an online game or even upload my map to a server but we will see about that later. But another things i got up this morning to find I was down 50GB space on the PC HDD and this happened why I was asleep and the PC off so no idea whats going on there.

Screenshots of the map will be later today after I get things sorted out.

Week 2 - #7 - gm_jdconstruct

Hello all

Well such a great day I think and I will get to why in a min but first off the project oh the RP building Scondog made will been used as it was lagging the map for some reason and it didn't fit in with the style I am going for on this map. Maybe another map I do I will add one of his buildings.

Yes you heard right I will be working on other maps as this was so much fun I just cant stop with mapping.

OK too the point of this post. The map is done as far as I can see and looking great I put a total of 78.8 hrs into this map and today I did a lot of touch ups as in aligning the lights and adding more details to things.

Sad thing is I cant load pic tonight as I'm off to bed and there no time to capture, Edit, upload and post. So tomorrow I will have pics up and if all gos right I will have it up on a server this Monday coming Aussie time that is. The server will be testing beta so I can get all the bugs out and add things I forgot to. I'm working on how to do this and get feedback I guess replay here in comments of reply to my forum post oh Gaming SA site.

I will upload the map onto Garrysmod.org and work from there on Monday but first time admin on a gmod server so I will try to get it going as best as I can.

Week 2 - #6 - gm_jdcunstruct

I am going to post a pic of what im working on now its a RP shops and living area. the base was made but Scondog and im just changing it to suit the map more. I do have Scondog permission to use this base so its all good there. remember i took this pic as i am building so its no where near done and will look alot different.

Week 2 - #5 - gm_jdconstruct

Hi all again

So was working on the undergrounds yesterday and got the base down for it. stop there i know the lights are not lined up right but i did the lights in a rush to test before the day ended. any ways i put 6 rooms a pooll room, 3 little rooms, the room at the start of the undergournd passage ways and a look out box over the pool room.

Week 2 - #2 - gm_jdconstruct

Hello all

Well i got on and started working on the track and fixed it so the trains fit. also put the turntable in and got it working just right so great day for that i think even if when i tested the track out on Gmod with a train it didnt want to stay on the track around the bends so i need to rework it till it works. Then theres the change over track will need a complete change its didnt work at all so more time and work there i think thats a about 5 hours work there todo.

Week 2 - #1 - gm_jdconstruct

OK hi all

well im going to be puting it in weeks now on this blog so i may do 3 or more post a week about the map but its a slow thing getting it all setup.

Looking at gmod server cost and should have a server to beta test this map in 2 or so weeks and thats means feedback on anythink not working or not looking right also if i should add somthingor remove it.

anyways nothing to update now been on a new game, Empire total war. but will be back to the map soon.

Day Five - gm_jdconstruct

Hello again

well i long ass day this one was, I got the staion down and the trake right around the map with it all working nice. I got a turntable there but alot of problems with that and will not fix till another day. Speaking about day i will not be working on the map tomorrow as I just got empire total war (very cheap right now on steam).

will as for the track i made a small miss juge in size and was not thinking right when i did the main set to put all over the map and will need to redo all the track and part of the station to get it set right as in all of today i had no major progress in the map and there for no new pics sorry about that :(

so on day seven i should hope to have the track down on the top and then Day 9 i will start the underground rooms as i am starting to work on the map once ever day or so after today stuff up i think i have spent too much time the last five day on source SDK and this small problem was so dumb but it was that i was just too tired LOL.

any ways i think the map is starting to look good and should be fun to use. Oh and another thing is that i will be getting a Gmod server to host Beta runs on the map but that will not be till like day 20 or 30 and the map should be bug free and great detail as i got testing going on with mate as i build and we test ever think right after is done so we know it works right for you all when i release the map.

Day Four - gm_jdconstruct

Hello again

Ok so last night i got the tower down and started making the runway better looking and making the lighting and skybox better. Today i have raised the sky, made the tower longer, made the test area for vehicle's (4 differente level hill climbs and a suspention testing area) and I made teh ramp in the water longer to fit long trailers for boats. all in all a fun day that now i have all the above ground buildings in apart from the 2 stations and railway but thats going to be like a weeks work there i think.

I also found out the rail size's, 6 wide / 8 high / 80 apart. there we go so if you are building a map and need the rail size's just write them down from here.

Day Three - gm_jdconstruct

Hello all

This is day three. I am sorry about all three post been posted on the same day but I am just starting this blog today and need to catch up with it all.

So day three is fun I did the hanger last night that was alot of fun had a bit of trouble lining it all up but got it sorted out today. Any ways I did the runway and the office today as you know the runway was very easy just a bit on the gound infront of the hanger. The office on the other hand was harder to do I had it a smaller but its didn't work wiht the roof was too low to the ground so i map the office into a 4 stoy high tower thing but thats not the tower its going to be bigger. The lights where a problem but i got it looking right now and in the stair well its looks great I think.

Well hello again

I have been updating my map and have its goining ok still alot of work to be done but will be there one day.

I have made the map 3 -4 times bigger and indoing so its starting to feel like a construct map.

Day One - gm_jdconstruct

Hello all


welcome to my blog, sit down for the ride as i take you on a journey of mapping gm_jdconstruct. Now this is my first map I've made and first time using Source SDK so you may see me doing things in this map that you would never think of doing as it is so dumb but that's why I'm doing this blog, so that you and any one who would like to give advise to me about mapping all I'm going off are some YouTube videos and forum posts.

Any ways on to the map well I have been playing Garry's mod for some time now and I do like the building side so i started looking for some maps to use that are better then the ones that came with the map. After looking I found a lot of great maps that test and a lot of build maps too but I really didn't find may with everything on it so you can build and testing.

  1. This was the first version and only took day to put together but its shit I know this so no need to go on about it. main reason for releasing this was to get something out there as a beta to start off get used to everything that is needed to make maps and I do like the sound of version 2 as been a massive update over version 1
